Author: <Vaibhav Singh>, Player, Cossonay Cricket Club Date: <23.06.2013> Berne CC turned out to be a bogey team for Cossonay again, as they easily defeated Cossonay in their 3rd League match this season, played at Marzili in Berne. Batting first, Cossonay had a miserable start as they lost Sathya and Lalit in the 2nd over of the match at a team score of 3 runs. Sriniketh and Vaibhav then steadied the innings with their solid defence and sensible batting. At 43 for 2, things were looking better, until Vaibhav (17) was stumped out and soon after Sriniketh (21) was adjudged LBW. Cossonay then had a middle order collapse as none of the other batsmen could understand the unpredictable nature of Marzili pitch. Aditya and Himank tried to play freely at the end but the damage was done as Cossonay were bowled out for a low score of 59 in 20 overs. In reply, Berne too had a slow start as Cossonay bowled stump to stump. The match could have been interesting, had Vaibhav not dropped Anish of the bowling of Himank and released the pressure. Later, Sriniketh picked up the wickets of Aseem and Habib but could not prevent Berne from comfortably chasing the target in 14 overs for the loss of 2 wickets. The collective batting failure was responsible for the poor show, and it is high time Cossonay batsmen make amends and play better cricket in the upcoming matches. |
