Author: Sriniketh Srinivasan, Player, Cossonay Cricket Club Date: 30.07.2012 Gnana and Pradeep take Cossonay into their 3rd League win Cossonay Man of the Match: Gnanasekaran Thoppae - 36* and 3/55 Cossonay went into the league game against the defending Swiss league champions Berne CC needing a victory to keep their chances of going through to the Semi – Finals alive. Choosing to bat, Aditya provided some early fireworks with some lusty blows before falling caught and bowled for 16. On the other side. Sathya was playing a solid innings, but the Cossonay top order of Mathew Boden and Sriniketh Srinivasan were dismissed cheaply. When Sathya was also dismissed the score read 52 for 4 in 12 overs leaving Cossonay in tatters. Enter Captain Yeti Sinh to play his innings of the season. Accompanied by debutant Lalit Kumar Dubey, Yeti played a fine knock of 49 to lead Cossonay towards a respectable score. Gnana Thoppae came in at number 8 to score a quick fire 36 not out that included 2 huge sixes to take Cossonay to 176. Berne began positively and raced away to 52 for no loss in 7 overs. Cossonay needed some inspiration and it arrived once again through Gnana who dismissed Berne captain Thissa caught by Himank at midwicket for 32. Pradeep Rao, playing just his second league game of the season, then ran through the Berne batsmen to finish with six wickets for 25 runs. The Berne innings ended at 138 to give Cossonay a 38 Run victory with Gnana taking 3/55. A special mention must be given to Sathya, the Cossonay keeper who showed amazing energy behind the stumps and also helped captain Yeti with his valuable inputs on field placements. The scorecard though doesn’t reflect the fact that Cossonay still managed to drop a number of catches. With their last league game against CERN on the 12th of August, Cossonay must put in a similar performance minus the drop catches. View the scorecard on play-cricket ! |
